Goldfinch nest in Apple Tree!

Seeing I don't get out much it's all going in our garden!! We had a goldfinch nest in the apple tree which meant we couldn't prune the tree until they'd all left the nest. The eggs take 11 days to hatch and the young fly after 13 days and there are 1-3 broods. It was packed in really tight in a folk in the branches.
Well, we had to cut the new growth back as it was 2 months late doing it, so the nest was brought down as it was the end of the breeding season, if left in tree it would have rotted.
I will give it to our Primary School in September to show the children, even though I warn you, it's a bit messy!!!!

Little Egret!

No, not the bird!! An orchid which has taken me two years and the third lot of bulbs [you only get them when they are ready to be sent which can be any time of the year]. The first lot only one bulb tried to come through, the second lot rotted and this lot were really nurtured to an inch of their life!!!! I am so pleased now, they are beautiful!

What a surprise!!

I was in the garden yesterday and something shot passed my eye line into the honeysuckle and I saw it hoovering!! I thought blimey that looked like a very small hummingbird but it can't be it had to be a moth, it just hoovered from plant to plant. Searched the net and found it's called 'The Hummingbird Hawk Moth" Have any of you seen one?

Just saw our nature expert in our village and he said he didn't see one last year but did the year before, it depends how warm it is how far north they migrate!

What a fruitful day!!

Well, I went for it today, afraid the rain would catch up with me, picked another 3lbs (1 1/2 kls] of gooseberries, 2 lbs of rhubarb, 2lbs of white currants ( I thought they were red as some kind person in garden centre had put a red currant label in them!!) 1 1/2 lbs of red currants and 1 1/2 lbs of black currants!!! It was a race between me, the birds and the rain!!! All safe in freezer now, no time to make jam at mo, so I can do at a future date. Saw a fledgling blackbird on the Bramley by all the bushes (Mum was on hand squawking and eating) and managed to round up my 18yr old deaf cat(that still catches mice!)and shut him in so the youngster had a chance to get away! And here comes the rain!!!
Now to eat, and work, have a commission card to design and cross stitch for Thursday so will be very busy tonight and tomorrow. Am berried out!!! Byo.
